Candidates for Congress Print E-mail
Here are the candidates running for seats in the U.S. Congress which represent portions of Contra Costa County.

* = incumbent (Listed first so you know what race you're looking at.)
Occupations or other descriptions are the ballot designations candidates have chosen. (Incumbents usually just put "incumbent" or equivalent, so are not otherwise ID'd.)

Unopposed candidates are not listed. Most races with unopposed candidates are not on the ballot. (See separate list.)

Where available, candidates websites or e-mails are listed.
Many candidates for non-partisan offices have web pages on the League of Women Voters website, www.smartvote.org .

CONGRESSIONAL RACES

U.S. REPRESENTATIVE
7th District
(Northern C.C. and southern Solano Counties)
*George Miller, Dem, Martinez
    repgeorgemiller@sbcglobal.net
Camden McConnell, Lib., Pittsburg
    www.camdenforcongress.org
    Structural engineer

McConnell can use his candidacy to get a little attention for the Libertarian Party line, but Miller is a dead cert for his 16th term.

10th District
(Portions of Contra Costa, Alameda, San Joaquin Counties)
*Ellen Tauscher, Dem., Alamo
   www.tauscherforcongress.com
Darcy Linn, Rep., Pleasant Hill
   dplinn@aol.com
   Retail executive

Linn is the GOP's sacrificial lamb for this season. The district lines were drawn for Tauscher.

11th District
(Portions of San Joaquin, Contra Costa, Alameda and Santa Clara counties)
*Richard Pombo, Rep., Tracy
Jerry McNerney, Dem., Pleasanton
    www.jerrymcnerny.org

The Dems are working hard, playing up GOP weaknesses that keep hounding Pombo, but it's a Republican district in which he's very well known and popular. He took a chance that an appearance by the President would help him. Three cheers for loyalty.
